Izzy Pludwinski

izzypludwinskiIzzy Pludwinski is widely considered one of the top calligraphers in Israel. His unique designs reflect his view that one can create interesting ketubot and other works of art solely through pure calligraphy.

Beginning his writing career as a Sofer STaM, his creative challenge lies in finding ever-new forms for the Hebrew Aleph-Bet – a path that has led him anywhere from traditional Judaica to abstract Hebrew calligraphy and even font development.

He also teaches a Hebrew Calligraphy Correspondence Course.

Izzy’s works have been selected many times in the judged annual competitions of the prestigious Letter Arts Review, and his book, Song of Songs, has been purchased by the likes of the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA), the Library of Congress, and the Judaica Division of the New York Public Library.

In addition to his own designs, he also does the calligraphy for many of Israel’s top Judaica artists, and he was the calligrapher for the Jerusalem Haggadah and the Moriah Haggadah. He was born in New York and lives in Jerusalem.
